Jet Scrubbers

The jet scrubber combines gas transport, cooling, absorption and particle / dust removal in one compact unit. By injecting the scrubbing liquid in the same direction as the gas flow, a vacuum is created at the gas inlet—often making an external fan unnecessary.

How the Process Works

  • Side inlet – Contaminated gas enters horizontally.
  • Liquid injection – A liquid motive jet accelerates the gas and raises the pressure.
  • Cylindrical reaction zone – The motive fluid is dispersed by a nozzle, forming a cone that spans the full diameter of the scrubber’s cylindrical ejector section, providing a large contact area between gas and liquid.
  • Separation tank – Gas and liquid phases are separated; sludge or impurities are drained.
  • Mist eliminator – Fine liquid droplets are captured before the clean gas continues.

Jet Scrubber

Advantages of Jet Scrubbers

  • Self-priming—replaces a mechanical fan
  • Simple, compact construction
  • Low maintenance, high reliability
  • No fire risk thanks to fully wet operation
  • Can be arranged in multiple stages for very high removal demands

Typical Applications

  • Fan-less gas conveyance
  • Direct “quench” cooling of hot process gases
  • Absorption of SO₂, Cl₂, HCl, NH₃, HF, H₂S, etc.
  • Removal of dust particles > 3 µm
  • Recovery of valuable substances from gas streams

Sizes & Materials

Standard sizes DN 80–DN 1 000 cover 60 – 26 000 m³/h. Custom designs up to 100 000 m³/h are available as single- or multi-stage solutions; installations exist up to 300 000 m³/h and 1 000 °C.

Materials of construction

  • Carbon steel, stainless steel
  • Steel lined with rubber, PVDF, PTFE or Halar®
  • Plastics (fiberglass, PP, PVC, PVDF)
  • Special alloys for corrosive environments

Pilot Equipment

A transportable pilot scrubber (≈ 300 m³/h) allows on-site verification of separation efficiency and energy requirements before investment.
